In 1687,  Sir Isaac Newton published his masterpiece work, commonly known as The Principia. In this piece, he described the three laws of motion. These laws govern all basic motion and teach that a specific result will occur if a certain action is applied.

Newton also wrote about the “Laws of Universal Gravitation”, which has made it possible for scientists to calculate the amount of gravity a particle will have. Sometimes it seems like changing the laws by which gravity is governed would solve a lot of problems, including several gravitational problems that come with space travel. But the laws of gravity can’t be changed.

Like the laws of motion, they are predictable and, for the most part, immutable.

As it is with the laws of motion and universal gravitation, so it is with spiritual laws. Spiritual laws don’t change. That is why, as we make our choices on how to live our lives,  it is important to begin with the end in mind.

Russell M. Nelson, Prophet and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said, “Because of Jesus Christ’s infinite Atonement, our Heavenly Father’s plan is a perfect plan … An understanding of God’s fabulous plan takes the mystery out of life and the uncertainty out of our future. It allows each of us to choose how we will live here on earth and where we will live forever. Today, to assist you to qualify for the rich blessings Heavenly Father has for you, I invite you to adopt the practice of 'thinking celestial’! Thinking celestial means being spiritually minded. We learn from the Book of Mormon prophet Jacob that 'to be spiritually-minded is life eternal.’  Mortality is a master class in learning to choose the things of greatest eternal import. Far too many people live as though this life is all there is. However, your choices today will determine three things: where you will live throughout all eternity, the kind of body with which you will be resurrected, and those with whom you will live forever. So, think celestial … When you are confronted with a dilemma, think celestial! When tested by temptation, think celestial! When life or loved ones let you down, think celestial! When someone dies prematurely, think celestial. When someone lingers with a devastating illness, think celestial. When the pressures of life crowd in upon you, think celestial! As you recover from an accident or injury, …  think celestial!

Our Savior suffered “Pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind” so that He could come to our aid, give us comfort, heal us, and rescue us. He has given us laws to live by that will help us feel His spirit and receive the aid we need. Thinking celestial will help us choose to live by those laws so we may ultimately return to our Heavenly Father and receive all the great blessings He has in store for us.
